The team reached the top flight once, winning the 2. Bundesliga Nord to earn promotion to the 1. Handball-Bundesliga for the 2014/15 season. It did not last: licensing problems forced a withdrawal in 2016, and the club fell as far as the 3. Liga before working back up to the 2. Bundesliga in 2017.
