Fuerte San Francisco

Fuerte San Francisco reached the top flight in the 2022–23 season on the back of a play-off win. The club had done that before, in 1991, but three decades passed before it returned to the top flight.

Between those two peaks sits a stack of lower-division titles that says more about patience than glamour: seven Tercera División championships, the first in 1974 and the last in 2015, plus a Liga Afederada crown from 1949, back when the club was still finding its name. Officially, Fuerte San Francisco was founded on 8 January 1953, though the club's own history places the actual christening a few months earlier, in October 1952.

In Primera itself there is no silverware yet, but there is Ruben Alonso , captain of the side in 1991 and still remembered as the club's top scorer in the top flight.

The club carries the nickname Los Comandos Azules , in blue and white, and plays its home games at Estadio Correcaminos in San Francisco Gotera, a ground that holds 12,000. Its fiercest fixture stays close to home: the Derbi Morazeño against Jocoro, the other club of Morazán department.
