Handball arrived in Granollers through the Frente de Juventudes, the youth organisation that gave the club its blue and white in 1944. What grew from that has rarely left the top division since, and for a stretch in the 1950s to the 1970s it was the team the rest of Spain had to catch: ten Liga ASOBAL titles between 1959 and 1974. Yellow and black crept in during the late 1980s and early 1990s under a sponsorship deal with Cacaolat, but the shirt went back to its original colours once the deal ended.

Europe came later, and it came first. In 1976 Granollers beat Dankersen to win the EHF Cup Winners' Cup, the first European handball title any Spanish club had taken.

The academy has fed the first team and the national side alike. Carlos Viver came through it as a player and later returned to manage the club; Joan Cañellas left it to become an Olympic and world champion with Spain. Pablo Urdangarín, the Spanish king's son, wore the shirt in 2023.

None of that carries the weight of the Derbi Català. The rivalry sits underneath everything else the club has built since 1944.
