Gurutz Aguinagalde stood between the posts for Bidasoa before he ever sat in its president's chair. García Echeverría led the club from 1979 to 1997, and within that span Bidasoa won the Liga ASOBAL twice, in 1986–87 and 1994–95, and the Copa del Rey twice, in 1990–91 and 1995–96, adding a Copa ASOBAL in 1992–93.

The European nights carried further than the domestic ones. In 1995 Bidasoa won the EHF Champions League, and two years later the club added the EHF Cup Winners' Cup.

The team plays in blue and gold and is known locally as Los de Artaleku, after the arena that seats 2,200.

That golden period has not repeated itself since. The current squad, built around goalkeeper David Faílde and left back Jon Uriarte, reached the Copa del Rey final in the 2025–2026 season and lost to Barcelona, and the club has finished as league runner-up three times in recent years without closing out a title.
