When Itzik Shashon and Ofer Delyan decided in 2014 to bring football back to a club that had been folded into a merger three decades earlier, they found they could not even use its old name. Hapoel Tzafririm Holon, the side formed when Hapoel Holon merged with Tzafririm Holon in 1985, still held the rights to it, so the revived team spent its first seasons playing as F.C. Holon Yaniv, a borrowed identity for a club trying to reclaim a history it wasn't yet permitted to call its own.

The name Holon Yermiyahu arrived only in 2017, chosen for Haim "HaSilon" Yermiyahu, a former Hapoel Holon player and assistant coach who had died two years before. The yellow and purple kit has nothing to do with that lineage: the colours were taken from Hapoel Holon's basketball team, and the supporters who wear them call themselves HaSagolim, the Purples. Around the city the football side is known simply as Huloniya.

Huloniya now plays in Liga Alef, out of the Municipal Stadium, which holds 3,000. Matches against Maccabi Holon carry the weight of the Holon Derby.
