In the late 1880s Pim Mulier, who had brought the game to the country along with tennis, ran the Haarlem side; Kick Schröder ran RAP.
Mulier had started the club in 1879 as a rugby side. Football arrived in 1883.
The cup came three times, and the first of them, in 1904, produced a scoreline of 25–0 against VVV Amsterdam. Two more followed, in 1913 and 1915.
Since 1899 the club has played at Spanjaardslaan. Every New Year's Day since 1923 — now the first Saturday of January — a team of former Dutch internationals comes to play there. Queen Juliana granted the title Koninklijk in 1959, on the eightieth anniversary.
The modern club is a different thing: the Hoofdklasse won in 2014, the youth academy taking the Rinus Michels Award the same year, promotion to the Tweede Divisie two years later.
