Leioa

Before Sociedad Deportiva Leioa fielded a senior side again, it had a shirt: when supporters from the Txoierri neighbourhood revived the club in 1974, the youth team they put together took to the pitch in kit donated by FC Barcelona. The senior team did not follow until the 1979–80 season, in the Segunda Regional, the only one open to a club that had fielded no team at all for nine years after collapsing financially in the early 1960s. The name Sociedad Deportiva Leioa, adopted in 1981, belongs to that recovery rather than to the club's founding in 1925 as Sociedad Deportiva Lejona.

The rebuilt club has stayed modest in scale but not without moments. In 2013–14 it won the Tercera División and went up through the play-offs to Segunda División B. Two Biscay regional titles, in 1996–97 and 2007–08, mark the slower climb either side of that peak. In the Copa del Rey it reached the second round three seasons running, from 2017–18 to 2019–20, and went further still in the Copa RFEF, into the semi-finals, in 2021–22.

Estadio Sarriena only became the club's own ground in 1979, after years shuttling between the pitches at Ibaiondo, Lamiako and San Ignacio. Its original sand-and-lime surface gave way to grass in 1988, the year of its formal inauguration, and a two-tier clubhouse with floodlights was added in 2010. The nickname Los Leioarras comes straight from the town's own name for its people, and the derbies carry a geography lesson: the Derbi de la Margen Derecha against Arenas Club de Getxo, across the right bank of the estuary, and the Derbi vizcaíno against Barakaldo.

Sarriena now holds 3,741 people.
