Magdeburg U19

Six goals against 1. FC Saarbrücken in the 1999 final of the German Youth Cup settled the matter early, and that scoreline remains the one the Magdeburg youth side is measured against.

The senior club dates from December 1965; the youth section carries the same blue and white and the same nickname, Der Club . What the U19s have done since the cup win is quieter: a run to the semi-finals in 2018/19, the quarter-finals two seasons later. Neither turned into a second title.

The fixture that fills them is the one against Hallescher FC — the Elbe Derby, played out at youth level with the same edge the seniors bring to it.

Daniel Wölfel takes the side now, working with players who came up through the Magdeburg academy and who, in most cases, are chasing a place in the first-team squad rather than a trophy.
