Petrojet

The Suez Derby against Suez Cement gives Petrojet its sharpest fixture, two clubs from the same city pulling supporters into the same rivalry every time the fixture list puts them together. The club itself grew out of the Egyptian General Petroleum Contracting Company, which set it up in 2000 and gave it a base at the Suez Stadium, a ground holding around 25,000.

The nickname Al-Semsemeya, "the sesame seeds," comes from a local play on the club's name rather than anything on the pitch, though supporters wear it more readily than the blue-and-red colours the club is nominally registered in — Petrojet have played enough seasons in white to pick up "Al-Abiad" as an alternative tag.

Between 2006 and 2010 Petrojet were a genuine top-flight presence, finishing third in the Egyptian Premier League in 2008–09, their best league placing, and reaching the Egypt Cup semi-finals the same season. The continental run that followed, a Round of 16 exit in the 2009–10 CAF Confederation Cup, was as far as the club has gone in Africa. None of it lasted: relegation came at the end of 2020–21, and it took until 2023–24 for the club to win the Second Division A title and return to the top flight. In 2026 that return was overtaken by a merger with Suez SC, the two clubs combining into a new entity, Petrojet-Suez.

Alaa Ibrahim remains the name attached to Petrojet's best years, the club's all-time leading scorer in the Premier League with 33 goals and top scorer in the league in 2007–08 with 15 of them.
