El Gouna

The Khaled Bichara Stadium seats 12,000 and became a fully all-seater ground in 2009, the same year El Gouna reached the Egyptian Premier League for the first time. The club has stayed there since it was granted approval number 79 by the Egyptian Football Association on 1 July 2003.

What followed was a fast climb. El Gouna won the Fourth Division in their opening season, then the Third Division a year later, then the Second Division's Group A in 2008–09, that took them from the bottom of the pyramid to the top flight. They stayed in the Premier League until 2014–15, went down after finishing 16th, and came straight back by winning Group A again in 2017–18. A second relegation followed in 2021–22, and a second immediate promotion in 2022–23 put them back among Egypt's elite.

The closest they have come to a major trophy was the 2012–13 Egyptian Cup, where they reached the final and finished runners-up.

Sherif Ekramy spent a season in the Gounies' goal in 2009, the year the club first went up to the Premier League, before going back to Al Ahly, where he had already built his name. Amro Tarek started out at El Gouna, left for Major League Soccer, and returned in 2021.

ZED FC belongs to Nagib Sawiris, and El Gouna belongs to his brother Samih, and when both clubs shared the Premier League table in 2023–24, the meetings between them became known as the Family Derby.
