The name no longer appears in the Egyptian Premier League. What plays in Cairo now is Pyramids FC.

A year later, in July 2019, the Emirati businessman Salem Al Shamsi took it over.

What the Assiut club had done to earn a place worth buying was win Group A of the Egyptian Second Division in 2017. The first spell in the top flight, in 2014, lasted one season and ended in 19th place.

Nabil Emad came through the club's own system and stayed from 2016 to 2022, through the rebrand and the relocation, before moving to Zamalek and into the Egypt squad. Under the new name it reached the 2019 Egypt Cup final and lost 3-0 to Zamalek.

Aswan SC and Al Minya FC were the regional fixtures that mattered, though no derby name ever stuck to them.

The club was founded in 2008, named simply for its city, and its ground still carries the old name.
