The Kenya Forces Derby carries a title in its name that says who Police FC measure themselves against: Ulinzi Stars, the club of the Kenya Defence Forces. Two uniformed institutions, one fixture.

That changed in the 2024–25 season. Kenya Police FC had reached the top flight in 2021 after two unbeaten seasons climbing through Division 1 and Division 2, then settled into the middle of the table the way newly promoted sides do. George Maelo, the club's founder, returned as team manager in November 2024, and with head coach Etienne Ndayiragije he built a squad that beat Shabana FC to the FKF Premier League title — the club's first, achieved eleven years after Maelo formed it from the wreckage of Red Berets FC, the old police team disbanded in 2010. A few months earlier the same group had already won the FKF President's Cup, edging KCB 8-7 on penalties after the final finished level. The league title now sends Kenya Police FC into the CAF Champions League for the first time.

Home matches are watched from the Kenya Police Sacco Stadium in South C. Maelo's change to recruitment explains much of the turnaround: he opened selection to ability first, which is how a squad built partly around returnees from Europe like captain Abud Omar took shape.

Patrick Matasi is the name supporters bring up first. The goalkeeper saved the decisive penalties in the Cup final shoot-out against KCB, and it was that save that turned Makarao from a mid-table side into champions.
