Real Tomayapo

Estadio IV Centenario holds 16,586 people since work finished on the ground in 2024, up from the 15,000 the venue used to list, and it sits in Tarija: no other club from the city plays in the top flight, so there is no derby to speak of beyond an away trip to Oriente Petrolero in Santa Cruz, a fixture the local press has taken to calling the Clásico Polémico.

Real Tomayapo carries the name of a canton near the Tomayapo river, in the El Puente municipality, an area known for growing peaches, and the club drew its first players from families with roots there. A group of young amateur footballers put it together on 2 February 1999, with Marino Valdez as first president.

The climb ran through the local pyramid one step at a time: promotion to Primera "B" in 2012, then a play-off win in 2014-2015 that took the club into Tarija's Primera "A". In 2019 it won the regional ATF championship, which earned it a place in the Copa Simón Bolívar, and in 2020 it won that competition outright, a result that sent Real Tomayapo into Bolivia's top division for the first time.

It has stayed there since 2021 without adding a national title, though its league placings have improved — 13th in the aggregate table in 2023, then 7th in 2024, good enough to reach continental competition. A heavier reminder of the gap to the division's established sides came in the 2025 Copa Bolivia, where The Strongest beat it 5-0. On the pitch the team still wears green as its main colour, with red and white recalling Tarija itself.

None of it moves far from where it started: a canton by a river, known for its peaches, and a handful of young players from families who came from there.
