Abdelhamid Hergal's name still sits atop the club's scoring list, 85 league goals scored. Hergal belonged to a side built between 1956 and 1966, when Noureddine Diwa, Taïeb Jebali, Hédi Braiek and Brahim Kerrit took four league titles.

That golden run explains why the honours board reads top-heavy: four Ligue 1 championships, the last of them in 1964–65. The cups kept coming in thinner supply — 2003 and then 2024, a gap of two decades between them — and the club went abroad twice for continental silverware, beating SC Kuwait on penalties for the 1989 Arab Cup Winners' Cup and putting three past Al-Hilal Omdurman in 2001 to win it again.

Espérance and Club Africain remain the sides Stade Tunisien measures itself against in the Petit Derby, matches where the league table stops mattering for ninety minutes. Staying in that company at all has taken effort lately: after 61 unbroken seasons in the top flight, the club dropped to the second division in 2015–16, came straight back up, then went down again in 2020–21 and returned the following year. It reached a cup final again in 2025, and a Super Cup final too, and lost both — to Espérance in the Super Cup, 0–1, and again in the Cup itself. A club that once won five trophies in ten years has spent the last two finding it hard to win one.
