Iran Tractor Manufacturing Company put a team together in 1970, and the ownership around it changed hands — to the Revolutionary Guards, who ran the club from 1988 until 2018. A year on, under businessman Mohammad Reza Zonuzi, it took the name it carries now, Tractor .

The Red Wolves have played home matches at the Yadegar-e Emam Stadium, known locally as Sahand, since 1996, in a ground built for 66,833. Across town, Machine Sazi supplies the closest thing Tabriz has to a derby.

Tractor spent much of the 1990s knocking on the door of a championship without opening it, finishing second three times before the decade was out. The Hazfi Cup arrived twice, in 2014 and 2020, after final defeats in 1975 and 1994 had gone the other way. The league title took longer still. Tractor won it for the first time in the 2024–25 season, under coach Dragan Skočić, more than half a century after the factory side was founded.
