Vihren

The ground in Sandanski holds 6,000. Vihren have played there through every change of name and every change of league, and there have been plenty of both.

The club began in 1925 as Ustrem. It became Gotse Delchev in 1931, then Yane Sandanski, then Cherveno Zname — Red Banner — before a reorganisation of the sports societies in 1957 gathered everything under the name Vihren. The independent club, OFC Vihren Sandanski, dates from 1985.

Vihren won the second tier and went up to Group A for the first time. Konstantin Dinev, the owner, brought in the Portuguese coach Rui Dias for the top-flight campaign of 2007/08 and sacked him three months later. Before him, the Macedonian Gjoko Hadzievski had a year in charge. José Furtado, once of Porto, played here in those years; so did the Brazilian Gabriel Sérgio.

Money ran out in 2011. The club was dissolved and removed from the second division, and when it was put back together in 2012 it started again at the fourth level.
