Volda HK Women

Volda sits at the head of the Storfjord in Møre og Romsdal, and for most of its life the handball played there ran under the banner of Volda Turn og Idrettslag, which had fielded teams since the 1970s. On 31 March 2005 the handball section split off into its own club, Volda HK, taking the town's colours of red and blue with it.

The club spent years working through the lower tiers, reaching the 1. Division for the first time in the 2012/2013 season.

Staying up has proven the harder task. Matches against Molde HK carry the weight of a genuine local derby, close enough in distance that supporters call it simply the neighbourhood match.
