Utleira Women

Utleira Idrettslag started as a sports club for the Stubban district of Trondheim, and within its stable of teams the women's handball section has spent most of its history well away from the top flight. The club was founded in 1972.

That changed only recently. Promoted out of the 2. Division for the 2023/24 season, Utleira Jenter finished fifth in the 1. Division a year later, then second in 2025/26 — close enough to force a qualification series against Haslum IL. Winning that series sent the club into the Eliteserien for 2026/27, the first time the women's team has reached Norway's top division.

The team plays at Utleirahallen, a hall that holds 400, in orange and black. Locally the fixture that matters most is against Byåsen Håndball Elite, a derby that will carry more weight now that Utleira meets the city rival on equal terms at the top level.

Synne Olsen scored the goals that took Utleira up, top-scoring in the promotion match itself — the kind of form the club will lean on as it tries to hold its place among Norway's best.
