Wals-Grünau

Gerhard Brennsteiner has pulled on the green-and-white shirt more times than anyone else in the club's history, in a place where players tend to stay rather than pass through. Wals-Grünau is based in Wals-Siezenheim, on the edge of Salzburg, and plays at the Hans-Ludwig-Stadion — a ground once known as Sportanlage Grünau, holding 1,800.

The football section was formed in May 1957 inside ATSV Wals, a wider sports club, and lapsed before starting again in 1959. What followed was decades of shuttling around the lower tiers of Salzburg football. The Salzburg Liga title arrived in 1993/94 and returned in 2011/12, each time earning a place in the Regionalliga — a step the club has taken five times in all, the last of them in 2024/25, when it finished fifth in the Regionalliga Nord.

Helmut Rottensteiner played for Wals-Grünau across two spells, either side of time at Austria Salzburg, one of the few threads linking this club to the bigger stage in the state capital. Gerhard Perlak, on the books into the early 2000s, later came back as coach and sporting director.

The following season brought something new. On 13 May 2026, Wals-Grünau beat USC Eugendorf 2-1 to win the Salzburg regional cup — the first trophy of its kind in the club's history, and reason enough to defend it now.
