Weiden

Weiden in der Oberpfalz sits in the Upper Palatinate, playing under the Blue Devils tag since supporters voted for it over 'Weiden Outlaws' in July 2000, 259 votes to 209. The parent association, 1. EV Weiden e.V., dates the club to 1985, though the playing name only followed fifteen years later.

The Blue Devils have spent their history climbing toward the second tier and sliding back down: promotion to the 2. Bundesliga in 1994 ended in relegation four years later, and a repeat promotion in 2003, won against Dresdner Eislöwen in the playoffs, unravelled again by 2005. The most recent climb stuck. In 2024, under coach Sebastian Buchwieser, Weiden beat Hannover Scorpions 4–2 in the Oberliga final and went up to DEL2, more than three decades after the club's first Oberliga Süd title in 1992.

Games against Eisbären Regensburg are still billed locally as the Oberpfalz-Derby, ahead of meetings with Selber Wölfe and the Höchstadt Alligators. Tomáš Jelínek went on to Ottawa Senators, Tomáš Divíšek to the Philadelphia Flyers, and Dominik Kahun passed through Weiden's youth ranks before reaching Buffalo Sabres.

Home games are played at the Hans-Schröpf-Arena, known until 2013 as the Eisstadion an der Raiffeisenstraße. Florian Zellner alone has worn the Weiden shirt in 734 games there.
