Promotion out of the National League in April 2023 ended 15 years outside the Football League. What followed was rarer still: second place in League Two in 2023/24, then the League One title in 2024/25, and a first season in the Championship.
The ownership change came first. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the club through Wrexham Holdings LLC in 2020.
The Racecourse Ground carries the older claim. It is the oldest international football stadium still staging matches, and it holds 10,771. Supporters know it as the STōK Cae Ras.
The club was founded on 4 October 1864, at The Turf Tavern, by members of the town's cricket club; supporters voted in 2012 to settle on that date. It makes Wrexham the fifth-oldest football club in the world and the oldest professional club in Wales. It was also a founder member of the Football League's Third Division North in 1921.
Before the recent run, the trophy that defined the club was the Welsh Cup , won 23 times between 1878 and 1995. The Football League Trophy followed in 2005 and the FA Trophy in 2013.
The fixture that still carries most weight locally is the Cross-border derby with Chester FC. Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere Rovers make up the rest of the list.
