Botswana Women

The team went straight to the deep end: its first international, on April 19, 2002, was against South Africa in Harare, and it lost 14–0.

In the COSAFA Women's Championship, the regional tournament of southern Africa, Botswana reached the final twice, in 2019 and again in 2020. Both finals went to South Africa, 2–1 in 2020 and 2–1 the other way in 2019, the earlier one by a single goal as well. The Zebras, as the side is nicknamed, had gone from a 14-goal beating to a game decided by one goal.

That regional form carried into the 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations, the first major tournament the team had played in. They reached the quarter-finals and went out to Morocco.

Refilwe Tholakele is the name that recurs in the record. She is the all-time top scorer with 16 goals. Sedilame Boseja now captains the side from goal, and Mokgabo Thanda, a long-serving defender, wore the armband before her.

Home games are staged at the Botswana National Stadium in Gaborone, which holds 25,000. The team has yet to qualify for a FIFA Women's World Cup or the Olympic Games.
