Teslim Balogun Stadium in the Surulere district of Lagos holds 24,325 people and does most of the hosting duty for Nigeria's women's team, though the federation has never tied the Super Falcons to one ground. Qualifiers have been staged there, including a 2019 fixture, while the older national stadium in the city, now known as the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, has faded from the rotation as renovation work has kept it out of use.

The team's first recorded international outing came on 16 February 1991, a 5-1 win over Ghana, and later that year Nigeria took part in the inaugural FIFA Women's World Cup in China. It has appeared in every edition since, the qualifying campaign for 2027 the lone gap. None of that run has produced more than a quarter-final, reached in 1999.

The continental record reads differently. Nigeria has won the Women's Africa Cup of Nations ten times, a span running from 1998 to 2024 — the most recent title decided in Morocco in 2025 — with a bronze added in 2008. Perpetua Nkwocha scored 80 goals across five World Cups and an Olympics, a tally that still stands as the national record, while Onome Ebi has made more appearances for the side than anyone else, 109 caps built up across the same stretch of tournaments. Asisat Oshoala has carried that scoring pedigree into the current squad, captaining the side through the 2015, 2019 and 2023 World Cups and the 2024 Olympics.

The rivalries have stayed close to home. In 2025 Nigeria beat Cameroon 2-0 and saw off South Africa 2-1 in a WAFCON semi-final, and fell 0-1 to Cameroon in the WAFCON 2026 quarter-final.
