Hohenems

VfB Hohenems shares Vorarlberg with FC Dornbirn 1913, and the meeting between the two carries a name of its own, the Ländle-Derby. Schwarz-Weiß Bregenz and SC Austria Lustenau round out the list of clubs Hohenems measures itself against.

The club grew out of Hohenems itself in 1923. Two runner-up finishes in the Regionalliga West, in 1982 and 1987, mark the closest it has come to stepping above Vorarlberg level.

Within the province, though, Hohenems has kept coming back. Seven Landesliga titles stretch from 1967 to 2024, with the gaps between them long enough that each one reads as a small resurgence rather than a continuation, and the most recent two, in 2023 and 2024, arrived back to back. The Vorarlberger Pokal has gone the same way, six times since 1989, the last of them also in 2024, so that the club's most recent season stands as a league-and-cup double at regional level.

Carlos Berlinger joined the squad in 2023, part of the group that carried the club through that double. The Blue-Yellows, or Steinböcke as they are also known locally, play out of the Herrenried Stadion, which holds 2,800. It is at Dornbirn, though, where the season is judged. Beating the Ländle-Derby rival still counts for more in Hohenems than most Landesliga points, and that has not changed since the rivalry took shape.
