Real Betis held on for a 1:0 win over Getafe at the Benito Villamarín on Wednesday evening, extending their unbeaten run to eight matches in all competitions. The victory moved them further clear in third place with 15 points from six league games.
Abde Ezzalzouli struck just before half-time, his effort initially flagged for review before being confirmed at 45+2 minutes. To be fair, the goal came from a period where Betis were pressing high up the pitch, and the eventual verdict felt inevitable. Ángel Ortiz had been substituted moments before the goal, while Getafe lost David Cordón Mancha at the same interval.
The visitors struggled to escape their own half for long spells. By then, Getafe had accumulated four yellow cards and saw Mario Martín Rielves dismissed in the 87th minute after a second booking. The decision was made when the match was already decided, but it left the away side reduced to ten men for the closing stages.
Betis dominated possession at 75 per cent and created four big chances, yet their expected goals of 1.53 produced only a single result. They registered 16 shots with eight on target, but the conversion rate was poor. Getafe managed just six attempts with two on target and zero big chances created.
The home side had won five of their six league matches so far, including victories over Real Madrid and Valencia. Getafe sit in 15th place with just five points from one win and two draws, having lost their last two league outings against Osasuna and Partizan.
