Mateo Klimowicz

Mateo Klimowicz's international story splits down the middle of his passport. Argentine by birth and German through his father, former Bundesliga player Diego Klimowicz, he chose the German pathway at youth level and won the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship with Germany, starting three matches in the tournament across four caps.

His club career began at Instituto in his home country before VfB Stuttgart signed him in May 2019. He needed time to establish himself in Germany, and October 2020 brought a marker of his early promise: he was named Bundesliga Rookie of the Month. Across his years at Stuttgart he made 47 league appearances and scored once, with loan spells away at Arminia Bielefeld and then at Atlético San Luis in Mexico as he searched for regular football.

The San Luis loan proved the turning point. Stuttgart converted the deal into a permanent transfer in January 2024, and Klimowicz went on to become a fixture there, finishing with seven league goals from roughly 39 appearances across his loan and permanent spells combined.

In January 2026 he moved on again, joining Cerro Porteño on a free transfer with a contract running to December 2027.
