About the player
Tomás Pérez came through the Newell's Old Boys academy and was promoted to the first team in July 2024, going on to make 17 league appearances and score one goal that season. In February 2025, FC Porto paid a reported €4 million to sign him, split between a €3 million fixed fee and €750,000 in add-ons. In Portugal he split his time between the first team, where he made six appearances, and Porto B, where he added five more during the 2025–2026 season.
His clearest run of form has come with Argentina's youth sides. Called up to the under-20 squad by Javier Mascherano in October 2024, Pérez established himself as a starter through the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile. He scored in a 4-1 group-stage win over Australia and started the quarter-final victory over Mexico, helping the side reach the final, where Argentina finished as runners-up.
He arrived at Atlético Mineiro on loan from Porto in February 2026, with the deal including an option for the Brazilian club to buy 80% of his rights for €5.5 million. A defensive midfielder by trade, he has yet to be capped by the senior Argentina national team.
