Liepāja

Liepāja won its only Latvian championship in the 2015–16 season, and did it the hard way: the final against HK Kurbads went the full seven games before the title settled in the club's favour. That run remains the high point of a club built to replace one that no longer existed — HK Liepāja was formed in 2014 after Liepājas Metalurgs folded the previous year when its sponsor, the steelworks of the same name, went insolvent. The new club kept the city's hockey alive but not the old name, and today it plays simply as Liepāja, sometimes called Liepājnieki by its own supporters.

A second final followed in 2021, this time in the Baltic Hockey League, where Liepāja finished runners-up to HK Mogo/LSPA. Bruno Zabis carried much of that era on the ice, finishing as the club's all-time leading scorer with 238 points in 149 games while also serving as captain.

Money proved harder to manage than opponents. In June 2022 the club withdrew from the Optibet Hockey League altogether, sitting out two full seasons to concentrate on its youth structure rather than field a senior team it could not afford. The comeback came only in the 2025–26 season, under coach Edgars Brancis, with the first match back played on 6 September 2025 against Energija Elektrėnai.
