Lillehammer

Lillehammer IK's only Norwegian Championship came in the spring of 1994, when the club beat local rivals Storhamar Ishockey in the playoff finals. The title arrived on the back of a run that had taken the club from the third division to the top-tier Eliteserien in three seasons, a climb set in motion by the opening of Kristins Hall in 1988, built as Lillehammer prepared its bid for the 1994 Winter Olympics. For three decades before that, the team had played on natural ice, drifting in and out of the second tier without much to show for it.

The Olympic years brought money problems that repeatedly put the club's survival in doubt, and it took until the 2017–18 season for Lillehammer to reach an Eliteserien final again, 24 years after the championship. They lost that final to Storhamar and settled for bronze. A few months earlier, on 18 November 2017, the two clubs had met in an occasion called "Hockey Classic" at Håkons Hall, drawing 10,031 spectators, a Norwegian indoor hockey attendance record.

Retired numbers hang for Arne and Lars Bergseng, brothers who both played for the club, alongside Per Olav Skarpjordet and Øystein Tronrud. Among the players who moved on from Lillehammer, Per-Åge Skrøder was named Norwegian Player of the Year in 2002, while Andreas Martinsen went on to play in the NHL with Chicago.

Storhamar remains the opponent that matters most.
