The Carling Knockout Cup had never gone to a club from Limpopo before Magesi beat Mamelodi Sundowns 2–1 in the 2024 final, a scoreline settled by Delano Abrahams' winner in the side's very first season in the top flight. That season followed a title won the hard way: the 2023–24 National First Division crown, the club's first ticket to the Premier Soccer League after a decade spent working through the SAFA Second Division, where they took the Limpopo Stream four times between 2014 and 2022.

Magesi started out in the township of Moletši under the name Tambo F.C. in 2011, and the club now known as the Black Crocodiles plays out of Polokwane. Clinton Larsen took them through that climb from the lower leagues to the cup final, and Owen Da Gama replaced him as head coach in 2026, arriving in time to take the club straight back down: Magesi finished 15th in 2025–26 and lost the promotion/relegation playoff to Milford, returning to the second tier a year after arriving. Solly Makhubela owns and chairs the club.

Local rivalries run through the Limpopo derby, contested with Polokwane City, and through an older enmity with Baroka FC, forged in years of sharing the same regional league. Seshego Stadium, the home ground, holds 15,000.
