Magnus Svensson and Johan Franzén both learned the game at Tranås AIF, and the club still points to that pair, along with goaltender Stefan Liv.

Two promotions to the second-tier Allsvenskan, in 1961 and 1999, mark the high points, and the second of those carried the club into the short-lived top-flight Superallsvenskan for the 1999/2000 season, where it finished seventh before four seasons at Allsvenskan level ran their course. No national title sits in the cabinet, but the club topped its Division II group repeatedly through the 1950s.

Home games are played at the Tranås Åkeri Arena, a 2,100-seat rink that has carried the names Bredstorpshallen and Stiga Arena at earlier points in its life. Yellow and black remain the club's colours. Tranås BoIS traces its own separate line through bandy, and it is HC Vita Hästen of nearby Nässjö, not any local side, that Tranås AIF fans treat as the real rival, even without an official name attached to the fixture.
