Vítkovice

Vítkovice's only Czechoslovak Extraliga title, in 1980–81, came in a country whose league they had joined in 1936: four second-place finishes in the Czech Extraliga since Czechoslovakia split, in 1996–97, 2001–02, 2009–10 and 2010–11. A second league crown had arrived in 1951–52, and between the two came a run of near-misses that the club could not turn into more silverware — runner-up finishes in 1949–50, 1950–51, 1952–53, 1982–83 and 1992–93 alone.

The club started out in 1928 as SK Moravská Ostrava and took the Vítkovice name the following year, tying itself to the steelworks district it still represents. That industrial identity outlasted the club's own crest, which for decades carried the red-and-yellow figure of the knight Rytíř Vítek before blue and white became the settled colours.
