Volleyligaen Women (Denmark) 2026/27

The Volleyligaen Women stands as the premier professional volleyball competition in Denmark, operating at Level 1 of the national pyramid. Founded in 1962 by the Danish Volleyball Federation, the tournament has run continuously since the 1962/1963 season. It sits above the 1. Division, which is split into East and West zones.

The current season features nine teams. During the regular season, known as Grundspil, every club plays each other twice in home-and-away fixtures. Eight teams qualify for the playoffs, called Slutspil. The remaining side enters a placement battle. The playoff structure uses best-of-3 series for quarterfinals and best-of-5 series for semifinals and the final for the championship.

Promotion and relegation link the top flight with the second tier. The team finishing tenth faces relegation if a qualified challenger exists from the lower division. Ascending to the league requires meeting financial and facility certification standards set by the governing body.

Holte IF holds the record for most titles with eighteen, including dominant periods in the 1990s and 2010s. Helsingør KFUM won nine consecutive championships between 1979 and 1987. Other frequent victors include Vognmandsmarken, Fortuna Odense Volley and Brøndby VK, each claiming five crowns. The reigning champion is Holte IF, who secured victory over ASV Elite in the recent final. ASV Elite claimed the previous title in 2022/2023.

The format mirrors the men's equivalent league, established a year later in 1963. Both competitions share identical playoff hierarchies. The primary domestic cup serves as another route to European qualification alongside the league winner.
