About

The 1. Division West Women serves as the second tier of the Danish women's volleyball league system. Situated directly below the top-flight VolleyLigaen, the competition is organized by Volleyball Danmark (Dansk Volleyball Forbund). The league operates alongside a separate East division, with the two split geographically by the Great Belt to minimize travel for clubs. Teams located west of the strait compete in this specific regional structure.

The current season involves ten clubs, including ASV Aarhus 2, Bedsted Women, DHV Odense 2, Esbjerg Women, Ikast 2 Women, and Lyseng Women. The regular schedule follows a double round-robin format, ensuring each team plays eighteen matches against their opponents.

Advancement to the premier division is not automatic for the division winner. The champions of the West and East divisions first face each other in a qualification match to determine the overall second-tier champion. That victor then competes in a final promotion playoff against the eighth-placed team from the VolleyLigaen. Success in these matches is conditional on administrative certification from the governing body regarding facilities, economic stability, and youth work programs.

Failure to maintain performance levels results in relegation to the regional 2. Division Vest. While the top-tier league dates back to 1962, the specific founding year for this regional structure is not documented in available records. Recent results show DHV Odense winning the 2024/25 season, securing a path to the promotion playoffs. The primary distinction between the West and East divisions remains geographical, as both operate under identical rules and the same complex promotion mechanism.
