About

The 1. Division East (1. Division Øst) operates as a regional subgroup within the Danish Men's 1. Division, forming the second tier of the national men's volleyball pyramid. Situated directly below the top-flight VolleyLigaen (formerly Superligaen) and above the 2. Division, the competition is organized by the national governing body, Volleyball Danmark (formerly Dansk Volleyball Forbund).

To minimize travel for teams, the national 1. Division is split into two geographic conferences: East (Øst) and West (Vest). The East division covers teams primarily from Zealand and the Copenhagen area. Current participants in this group include Amager 2, DTU, Enghave, Frederiksberg, Gentofte 2, and Grondal. The season format consists of a double round-robin league within the conference, where each team plays every other participant twice in home and away matches.

Promotion to the VolleyLigaen is not automatic based solely on league position. It requires a certification process managed by Volleyball Danmark regarding financial and organizational standards. Sportingly, teams finishing in the top three of their respective 1. Division pool are eligible for promotion if they meet these criteria. Relegation to the 2. Division applies to the bottom-placed teams, though the exact number of relegated teams varies by season based on the number of teams in the lower division and certification status.

While the top-tier Danish Volleyball League was established in 1963, specific founding dates for the 1. Division as a distinct second-tier entity are not publicly documented, nor are detailed historical records for the regional East division itself. In the 2023/24 season, Hvidovre VK won the 1. Division East, while Aalborg Volleyball won the West division.
