Dinamo Minsk saw off Naftan 5-1 in the Premier League's Regular Season round 15 on Tuesday evening. The hosts ended a run of three straight defeats and three draws without a win, while Naftan's misery deepened in the bottom half of the table. Karen Vardanyan scored twice in the first half to set the tone, and Dinamo never looked back after that.
By then the pattern was clear. Abdullahi opened the scoring in the eighth minute, Vardanyan converted a penalty at the turn of the half, Ivanov added a third in the twenty-eighth, and Vardanyan completed his brace six minutes later. Four goals inside forty-five minutes is not something you recover from, and Naftan's defence simply collapsed under the weight of it.
And here's the thing about that first half — Dinamo did not dominate possession, but they took their chances when they came. They registered ten shots on target against Naftan's six, and while the visitors were more accurate with their attempts, accuracy means little when you are chasing a game this early.
Naftan pulled one back through Galimzyanov in the sixty-seventh minute, which at least gave the away side something to show for their effort. Sokolovskiy then ended a barren spell for Dinamo with an eighth-minute strike, and the result was never really in doubt after that.
The statistics tell a familiar story. Dinamo held sixty per cent of the ball and earned five corners, while Naftan managed six corners despite having less time on the ball. The visitors were sharper in front of goal, hitting two-thirds of their shots on target, but that precision could not compensate for the deficit they had built up.
Dinamo move up to third place with thirty-six points from seventeen games, closing the gap on the teams above them. Naftan remain in sixteenth, ten points from safety after nineteen matches, and their recent form — losses to Vitebsk, Neman and Gomel — suggests this season is slipping away.
