Huitzilapa edged past Lobos UPNFM 1-0 on Friday night in the fifth round of the Apertura campaign. The result leaves the hosts three points from safety while the visitors remain rooted to the bottom of the table with just two points from five games.
The match rarely broke open, with both sides trading yellow cards and making cautious adjustments. B. Lopez saw the first booking at the 16th minute before Y. Hinestroza went off shortly after half-time, replaced by L. Hurtado. By then the pattern was set — neither side willing to take risks in midfield.
The decisive moment arrived in the 88th minute when J. Padilla found the net. Lobos had made changes to chase the game, bringing on K. Kelly and others, but Huitzilapa held firm. The home side's three shots on target proved enough against the visitors' two.
Statistics tell a familiar story of a tight contest. Huitzilapa enjoyed 54 per cent possession and registered 73 attacks compared to Lobos' 76, yet the visitors could not convert their fair share of chances. Both sides earned six yellow cards between them, suggesting a match where caution outweighed ambition.
