About the player
Demir Xhemalija made his move official in July 2025, leaving FC Basel for FC Luzern after coming through Basel's U21 side. The switch, confirmed by Luzerner Zeitung, took the young Swiss midfielder from one Swiss League club to another rather than abroad.
Xhemalija plays as a defensive midfielder. His path through Basel's academy included a spell on the sidelines during the 2024-25 season, when an injury picked up with the U21 side kept him out for several weeks.
He has also featured at Swiss youth international level. The move to Luzern now places him at a new club.
