About the player
Louis Yamaguchi holds the No. 1 shirt at Kawasaki Frontale, but his path there ran through three countries. Born in La Garenne-Colombes in France, he carries Japanese citizenship through his mother, while his father is French. That dual background shaped his early career: after starting out at FC Waseda and then FC Tokyo's academy, he crossed to France to join FC Lorient's youth setup, before beginning his senior career in Spain with Extremadura UD B and later the first team.
After a spell at Recreativo de Huelva, Yamaguchi returned to Japan in 2022 with Mito HollyHock. A move to FC Machida Zelvia followed in January 2024, and just months later, in August 2024, he joined Kawasaki Frontale on loan. The move was made permanent in January 2025.
His first season at Kawasaki Frontale brought the club to the final of the 2024–25 AFC Champions League Elite, where they finished as runners-up.
Yamaguchi has represented Japan at youth level, with caps for the U19, U20 and U23 sides. He was part of the squad at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, and later featured for the U23s at the 2019 Toulon Tournament, where Japan finished as runners-up. He has yet to earn a senior cap for the national team.
