Luc Katja Anne Mares

Luc Mares grew up in the Fortuna Sittard academy after starting out at VV RVU in Maastricht, and he made the step up to Fortuna's first team in 2015, going on to make 54 appearances and score once for the club before his contract was left to expire at the end of the 2016/17 season.

Rather than a big move, his next step was an amateur contract at MVV Maastricht in January 2018. He stayed three and a half seasons, made 118 appearances, scored eight goals, and wore the captain's armband there before leaving for Norway in July 2021.

At IK Start he was meant to sign for a season and a half but stayed close to three years, making 75 appearances and scoring six goals before his move to HamKam in February 2024. HamKam has not disclosed what it paid for him, though third-party sites have put the fee at around 160,000 euros.

Mares has not collected individual awards or team honours in his career, nor has he been capped by the Netherlands at any level. The clearest sign of his standing at HamKam came this year, when the club turned down a €600,000 bid from CF Montréal for him, according to Voetbalprimeur.
