About the player
Yu Jinyong is a product of the Shandong Luneng Taishan football school, joining the senior squad without a transfer fee after working his way through the club's youth system. Although he was part of the Shandong Taishan squad that won the Chinese Super League and the Chinese FA Cup, he made no league appearances that season, and it was not until July 2024 that he made his professional debut, followed by a Chinese Super League debut two months later.
In August 2023, he had a trial at the Belgian club Royal Charleroi on the recommendation of his then-teammate Marouane Fellaini, and he returned to Shandong Taishan.
Internationally, Yu has represented China at U20 and U23 level, including a place in the China U20 squad for the AFC U-20 Asian Cup, and has earned caps for the China U23 side. He was named in the 26-man squad for the EAFF E-1 Football Championship, where China took the bronze medal, but stayed a substitute behind Yan Junling and Xue Qinghao and did not play, meaning he is yet to make his senior debut.
