Alga

Five league titles came in two bursts. Alga won the first Kyrgyzstan championship in 1992 and kept it in 1993 under Boris Podkorytov, then went seven years without one before returning to take three in a row from 2000. The cup run of those years ran longer still — nine wins between 1992 and 2003.

Then it stopped. The club was dissolved in 2005. An attempt to bring it back two years later under a different name lasted half a season. Alga returned properly in 2010 and has finished second four times since, most recently in 2020 and 2021, without adding to the five.

The name changes tell their own story. Zenit, then Trudovye Rezervy, then Iskra, then Spartak — four names in the first thirteen years, before Alga stuck in 1961. Even after that the club spent long stretches attached to something: Alga-PVO, then SKA-PVO through to 2004, then a pair of sponsor variants that lasted a season each. The word itself is Kyrgyz for "forward".

Home is a 3,000-seat ground carrying the club's name, a small stage for a side that once played at the 10,000-capacity Dinamo. The meetings with Dordoi, also from Bishkek, are the capital derby.

Vladimir Oreshin made around 195 appearances in the Soviet years. The Chokmorov brothers, Mars and Almaz, led the attack across two decades from the 1960s.

All of it started in 1947, in a city then called Frunze, with a works team named Zenit.
