Annecy spent last season back in Ligue 2 , a place the club had not occupied for the better part of three decades before the 2021–22 promotion campaign that ended with a runner-up finish in the National. The following year brought a run to the semi-finals of the Coupe de France.
The club traces back to 1927, and its only national title of any weight came in 1960, when it won the Championnat de France Amateur. Regional titles in the Lyonnais league through the 1940s and into 1980, honours in division four and the Rhône-Alpes leagues through the 1980s and 1990s. None of it carried the club into the professional ranks until 2022.
Guy Stéphan, later Didier Deschamps' assistant with the French national team, coached Annecy between 1989 and 1992 and took the side up to the second division during that spell. Lucien Leduc, a European champion with Monaco and winner of the European Cup as a player, closed out his career at the club in the 1950s and returned to coach it from 1956 to 1958.
Home games are played at the Parc des Sports d'Annecy, which holds 13,699.
