Lira sits in the Lango sub-region of Northern Uganda, and for most of the last decade its football identity travelled before it arrived. Blacks Power FC started life in 2006 as Bukedea Town Council FC, founded by Agnes Mugena, and only became "The Blacks" in 2020, when a rebrand stripped the club down to a single colour and a new ambition. The move to Lira followed a year later, ahead of the 2021/2022 season, and the club has been read as a Lira side ever since, even as its early history belongs to Bukedea district.

Promotion came fast once the relocation settled: Blacks Power won the FUFA Big League in 2021–22, taking them into the Uganda Premier League for the first time. The top flight gave them a rough welcome — a 5-0 defeat to BUL FC on their October 2022 debut — and a single season later they were back in the Big League. The club returned to the Premier League for 2025/2026 after leading the second tier's standings in May 2026, the kind of up-and-down record that has defined its short life more than any rivalry; the closest thing to one has been the promotion fight with Kataka FC.

Cup football has offered its own marker. In 2022/2023, Blacks Power reached the Round of 16 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup before Wakiso Giants eliminated them on penalties.

Home matches are tied to the Akii Bua Memorial Stadium in Lira, part of a construction project being expanded toward the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with a planned capacity of around 20,000. Since March 2025, the club has also had clearance to play FUFA Big League fixtures at the Uganda Technical College ground in Lira, a second address for a team still settling into the city it now represents.
