Express

Kampala's Uganda Express newspaper needed a football side to carry its name into the 1950s sporting scene, and in October 1957 its managers put one together, with Jolly Joe Kiwanuka doing the work of turning the idea into a club. With seven league titles stretching from 1974 to a 2020–21 championship, and ten Uganda Cup wins between 1985 and 2007, the club has spent the decades since among Uganda's most decorated sides. A ban kept them out of competition from 1977 to 1979, and the league titles they took in 1972 and 1973 were later annulled.

The one continental prize came in 2021, when Express beat Nyasa Big Bullets 1–0 to lift the CECAFA Club Cup, known also as the Kagame Interclub Cup, having twice finished runners-up in the 1990s, losing to Al-Merrikh in 1994 and to Simba on penalties a year later.

Their fixtures against KCCA FC carry the weight of a Kampala derby, the kind of match where the table goes out of the window. Among the names attached to the club's history, goalkeeper Joseph Masajjage is remembered as one of its defining figures, guarding the same goal that, decades on, would move in 2024 from the old Muteesa II Wankulukuku Stadium to Hamz Stadium, also known as the Nakivubo War Memorial Grounds, which holds 35,000.
