Police

The Uganda Police Force created its own football side in 1965, fielded to represent the force rather than a neighbourhood or a business. That origin still shows in the nickname, The Cops, and in the fact that the club has no website of its own — news runs through the Uganda Police Force's own pages.

The force team's worst year came in 1976, when four players died in a coach crash. The squad broke up in the aftermath, several of the survivors moving across to Army FC, and Police were relegated. They did not get back to the top flight until 1996, twenty years later.

Their one league title came in 2005, with David Yiga captaining the side and Geoffrey Massa, later the Uganda Cranes captain, among the players who mattered most to that campaign. The following year they added the CECAFA Clubs Cup. Three Uganda Cup finals came and went without a win — 2000 against SC Villa, 2002–03 against Express FC, 2023 against Vipers SC — and in 2022 the club dropped out of the Premier League after 27 years there. They answered it in one season, winning the FUFA Big League in 2023/24 to go straight back up, with the midfielder Denis Iguma joining that year.

Police play out of the Star Times Stadium in Kampala's Lugogo area, a 3,000-seat ground, while a new stadium on Kiira Road is being built for them. In a city where the Kampala Derby belongs to Express, SC Villa and KCCA, Police have never had a fixture of their own to match it — they remain, as they started out, the police force's team rather than any particular part of the city's.
