Cham

FC Cham was formed on 14 June 1910, the first football club anywhere in the canton.

The ground, Eizmoos, holds 1,800. Cham draws clubs from two and three divisions above it, FC Luzern and FC Schaffhausen among them, and those ties are the closest most of its supporters get to top-flight football in their own commune.

Twice the club has climbed higher than the cup for a season at a time. Cham played in the second tier — Nationalliga B as it was then, the Challenge League as it became — in 1998–99 and again in 2002–03. Neither stay lasted, and the gap between the two attempts, three seasons, remains the whole of the club's experience of professional football.

Since then Cham has settled in the Promotion League, the third division, where it finished sixth in 2024–25. The trophy cabinet is the honest measure of the place: no league title, no cup, nothing won in more than a century. What the club has instead is a foundation date nobody else in Zug can claim, and two seasons to argue that the second tier is not beyond it.
