The name on the shirt points somewhere specific. Locals call the team The Jacks, after Captain James Jack, who carried the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence to Philadelphia — the same document the club's own name nods to. The colours are navy, blue and parchment, with white worked into the branding.

Closest the club has come to silverware was 2023, a USL League One final against North Carolina FC that finished level at 1-1 and went to penalties, where Charlotte came out on the losing side, 4-5. The seasons either side of it, 2022 and 2024, ended at the quarter-final stage of the play-offs. No league title sits in the cabinet yet.

What the club has instead is the reason it exists at all: a name borrowed from a document carried out of the city more than two centuries earlier.
