Five sets against Nigeria in the group stage of the 2026 African Senior Nations Volleyball Championship in Kenya told the story of where Ghana's women stand in the sport: two sets won by wide margins, two lost just as clearly, and a deciding set that slipped away 18-16. It is a pattern that has followed the side for years.

The high point remains 1991, when Ghana finished fourth at the Women's African Volleyball Championship, a placing the team has not matched since. The Ghana Volleyball Federation, which runs the side, was founded in 1961 and joined the International Volleyball Federation that same year.

Recent results have swung both ways. At the 2023 championship in Yaoundé, Ghana lost to Kenya in five sets after being routed 25-2 in the second. At the 2026 Women's African Volleyball Nations Cup, by contrast, they opened with a clean 3-0 win over Côte d'Ivoire. There is no FIVB ranking attached to the team, and no Olympic appearance in its history — continental qualifiers remain the limit for now.

Based in Accra, the side trains and plays in the city's indoor halls rather than at any single ground of its own; the Accra Sports Stadium nearby belongs to the football teams.
