Weeks before the squad flew out for the 2023 African Championship in Yaoundé, the Uganda Volleyball Federation ran short of money to prepare the team properly. The Lady Cranes went anyway and came home eighth.
The federation dates to 1982, and the women's side plays out of the Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala.
That pattern held again in 2026. The Lady Cranes reached the quarter-finals before Cameroon put them out. Tonny Peter Lakony coached the side through both that tournament and the 2023 campaign in Yaoundé, and Catherine Ainembabazi has led the team as captain through the same stretch.
